Fuel Cells UK Manifesto to accelerate the commercialisation of fuel cells & hydrogen
June 14, 2010
The UK industry association committed to accelerate the development and commercialisation of fuel cells published a manifesto, calling the newly appointed Government to adopt new measures to support the fuel cell and hydrogen sector in the UK so that it can play its role in delivering low carbon jobs together with a range of other policy benefits.
According to the document, “the Government needs to fast track legislative and fiscal incentives at this pivotal point in the industry’s evolution”. To this end, Fuel Cells UK is proposing to the government a set of key measures, aimed at supporting the fuel cells and hydrogen industry and ensuring that UK benefits from the growing potential of this sector. The key measures are: Extending support for fuel cells as part of the Feed-In Tariff scheme; Focusing support for commercial development; Providing ongoing demonstration support activity; Using Forward Commitment Procurement; Changing existing regulation; Introducing Enhanced Capital Allowances and tax breaks for the low-carbon industry.
